Tasting notes
The 2021 G2 Vineyard is 67% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache and 3% Graciano and accurately expresses the power that this site exudes while straddling a rich, forward style that admirably doesn't give everything away all at once. The nose is brooding, dark and powerful, laden with black and purple fruits and lavender against a backdrop of leather and hints of savory accents. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, with a plush, polished texture that gives way to an expansive, intense and juicy finish. Despite the size of this wine, it admirably and continuously unfolds and shows impressive nuance within its immense frame.

I loved the 2021 G2 Vineyard, a brilliant Syrah-dominated blend that includes 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache, and 3% Graciano. Coming from one of the top sites in the appellation, it has a perfumed nose of pure blackberries, peppery herbs, violets, and classy oak. With full-bodied richness and depth, it has some background oak to integrate, ripe, polished tannins, and just about flawless overall balance. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade. It's a brilliant bottle of wine.
More lifted and floral, the 2021 G2 Vineyard entices with a whiff of stone dust, lavender pastille and dried cherries. This is pure elegance, with silky textures and polished red and blue fruits motivated by vibrant acidity. Slow-mounting tannins add traction toward the close. Structured and youthfully inward through the finish, this leaves behind a primary concentration and a saturation of crunchy mineral tones. The future is very bright.
The 2021 G2 Vineyard blends 64% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 10% Mataro, 6% Carignan and 6% Graciano. It opens with the site's signature punchy, brawny power, with aromas of mixed bramble berries, grilled plums, sandalwood and juniper berries. The palate is immensely ripe and lavish, filled to the brim with ripe fruit flavors before transitioning to a wonderfully delineated and precise finish of sweet, juicy fruit flavors framed with ghostly, swelling tannins. This is an incredible mix of raw power and opulence within a beautiful, refined and intriguing frame, and I look forward to following its development in the cellar.
