Vivid ruby. Aromas of ripe dark berries, candied flowers and smoky minerals pick up a hint of star anise as the wine opens up. Sweet and pliant on the palate, offering juicy boysenberry and black raspberry flavors that flesh out slowly with aeration. Finishes sappy and smooth, displaying rounded tannins, a lingering blue fruit note and strong, mineral-driven persistence.

The 2017 Fleurie is justifying my optimism last year, as the wine's tannins—despite the hail-impacted vintage—are melting and it's becoming increasingly supple and charming. Displaying scents of blackberries, raspberries, violets and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and nicely balanced.
Very bright and attractive red berries and a plush palate with berry-pastry flavors and a smooth, riper texture to the tannins. Drink now.
Aromas of dark berries, plums and cassis mingle with dark chocolate in a complex bouquet, introducing the 2017 Brouilly from Alain Coudert. Medium to full-bodied, tangy and concentrated, it's supple and nicely balanced. From vines in Saint Lager, it sees a shorter maceration, as Coudert contends the tannins are less interesting than in Fleurie.
