One of the highlights in this range, the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is other-worldly in its translucent beauty. Rose petal, spice, red berry fruit and mint are strands in a fabric of nearly indescribable beauty. An intricate latticework of aromas, flavors and textures dazzles the senses. The 2017 is lithe, gracious and statuesque in its beauty. In other words: classic Chambolle. The Domaine Leroy wines are very hard to find and, frankly, only within the reach of a privileged few. If there is one wine that overachieves a bit more than the others in relative terms it is the Fremières. I would be thrilled to own it. At this point, though, I will be happy to hopefully have a chance to taste it again at some point in the future.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is superb, and—as is often the case—I would argue that this is the finest of Domaine Leroy's communal bottlings this year. Opening in the glass with exquisite aromas of rose hips, raspberries, warm spices and sweet red fruits, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with racy acids and a long, mineral-driven finish.

For many, Domaine Leroy represents the pinnacle of fine Burgundy. Owned and run by the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy, the domaine in Vosne-Romanée is one strand of the Leroy empire, along with Maison Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay.
