The single vineyard 2007 Borne Bollene is 100% Shiraz from the Fechner Family Vineyard that was planted on its own roots in 1976. Coming from loamy, clay soils and aged for 24 months in half new burgundy barrels, the wine delivers a deep, fruit driven bouquet of ripe blackberry and blueberry that are supported by graphite, violets, fresh earth, and spiced country ham aromas. Brilliantly pure and fresh, the wine delivers a full bodied, seriously fruited profile that stays focused, clean, and light in the mouth, possessing good concentration and a long finish where the wine’s underlying structure starts to emerge. Seemingly all about the fruit at the moment, I think this will continue to improve over the coming 3-5 years, and have a solid 10-15 year drink window.

The 2007 Shiraz Borne Bollene comes from a single Eden Valley vineyard planted in 1976. The wine was aged for 24 months in 50% new Dominique Laurent Burgundy barrels. Purple/black in color, it delivers a kinky, smoky, wild blueberry and blackberry-scented perfume. It has plenty of savory fruit as well as a good dose of tannin. It should evolve harmoniously over the next 4-5 years but lacks the depth and concentration of a great year. The Standish Wine Company is quickly becoming one of the Barossa Valley’s benchmarks. Glass-staining purple. Highly expressive aromas of blackberry, blueberry, olive tapenade, incense and smoked meat. Deep, sappy and pure, offering sweet dark berry compote flavors and an exotic floral pastille quality. Becomes spicier and more powerful with air, finishing with outstanding clarity and thrust. This extremely impressive wine offers the energy and pungency of a high-end northern Rhone red.
