Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2024-2035, Neal Martin, Dec 2021
The 2020 Beaune Teurons 1er Cru is slightly higher-toned than other cuvées with touches of blue fruit permeating the red fruit, pressed violets plus a splash of iodine. The palate is rounded on the entry, quite pliant and fleshy, the richness counterbalanced by a fine thread of acidity. It just needs more definition and elegance on the finish. Closure: Diam

Chanson has just under 4 ha of Teurons. Cask sample. Much more reticent nose than the Clos du Roi. Quite a bit of ripe tannin on the palate and lots of future pleasure hinted at but a suggestion of alcohol on the end is a bit worrying. Very much unformed at the moment with tannins to the fore. (JR)
