The 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva is a pretty wine laced with savory and floral notes that add complexity to the bright red fruit. Medium in body, and gracious in its personality, the 2009 is best enjoyed over the next decade or so. High-toned notes round out the expressive, feminine finish. There is no shortage of character here.

The 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva is Sangiovese with 10% Colorino. As you might expect, the color is slightly darker and more saturated. Bright cherry and raspberry aromas are followed by wet clay, dusty mineral, spice and dried tobacco leaf. The wine drinks very nicely because it offers so much to remind you of Tuscany. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. There’s a lot of competition in this part of the world for who has the most beautiful castle. For sure, the medieval Castello della Paneretta with its stone towers and crenulated walls is a top contender in the running. The property includes a homey agriturismo for visitors looking for authentic Tuscan charm. The winemaking style also embraces strict Tuscan tradition: Castello della Paneretta prefers to work exclusively with the native varieties of the area such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Quite dark and developing ruby with orange rim. Very heady and intense raspberry nose with underlying oak. It’s a captivating whole but a little overpowering in its fragrant intensity. (WS)
