2011 Ornus dell´Ornellaia

The estate's sweet wine, the 2011 Ornus opens with attractive floral and tropical notes. Apricot jam, wild flowers, crème brulee. Orange peel and mint are some of the notes that meld together in the glass. The flavors are quite rich and overt, but the wine is medium in body, with bright, spiking acidity and good overall balance. My sense is that Ornus remains a bit of a work in progress, although the first vintages have certainly shown promise.
