Tasting notes
In Kammern, on the lower western slope of the Gaisberg. Loess, crystalline rocks. Certified Sustainable Austria. From the nose it is immediately obvious that this is a 2022 and has therefore had an extra year to mature. Rich, deep and spicy aroma, with a suggestion of non-sweet honey and the freshness of quince and pear. Powerful, intense, almost savoury but cool and honeyed – if bone dry and slightly sour – on the finish. Excellent weight and texture. Perhaps just a little brash/sour on the finish, for now at least. The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Renner grew in a mix of loess and alluvium and was fermented and matured in a large barrel. A touch of hay is all that appears on the nose, almost with an overtone of honey. On the slender, bright palate, the serene sense of cooling, peppery yeast appears and stays. This runs right through the wine, tingling, shimmering and sinking into deeper soil with its lovely, gentle texture that also carries just a touch of conifer. This is a quiet, soothing wine with beautifully understated but undeniable depth. (Bone-dry)
