Tasting notes
The 2017 Aloxe-Corton Les Valozières 1er Cru comes from humid clay soils under Les Bressandes. After the flattering Savigny and Pernands, this feels rather dowdy by comparison and lacks the same fruit intensity or mineralité . The palate is medium-bodied with light red cherry and cranberry fruit and modest weight, but I would have liked more substance and grip on the finish. As such, this is probably one of Chandon des Briailles’s earlier-drinking crus.

The 2017 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Valozières displays a spicy, earthy bouquet of forest floor and berries, followed by a medium-bodied, open-knit but chewy palate. It isn't as tight-knit and forbidding as Aloxe-Corton can be, but it isn't the fleshiest or most concentrated wine in the cellar either.
