(losses to frost were only 30% here, vs. 80% for the Grasses Têtes): Good dark red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry and mocha. At once sweeter and sappier than the Grasses Têtes, offering noteworthy concentration and definition to its juicy dark fruit flavors. Showing much more early personality too. Finishes with serious but pliant tannins.

The 2016 Marsannay les Longeroies has a much more fragrant and fruit-driven bouquet than the Grasses Têtes, red cherries and wild strawberry fruit to the fore. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and chalky tannin. This feels reassuringly focused and delivers a saline finish that leaves you wanting more. Fine.

Refined and with more structure than Les Grasse Têtes. But still with fine juicy tannins and strawberry with a corset. (JR)
