A blend of 53% Sauvignon Blanc, 37% Vermentino, 7% Viognier and 3% Sémillon, the Ornellaia 2023 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia shows a light golden color. The bouquet is less intense than in some past releases but reveals aromas of honey, chamomile, white peach and melon, while the palate shows a little more weight and waxiness, shaped by the hot growing conditions of the vintage. Sourced from vineyards influenced by Bolgheri’s coastal climate, the wine is aided by acidity that helps to turn it around.

A smoky and leafy wine with orange peel, sage and mint aromas. Medium-bodied, it shows density, white peach flavors, crisp acidity and a lean finish. Drink now.

Made from 53% Sauvignon Blanc, 37% Vermentino, 7% Viognier, and 3% Semillon, the 2023 Poggio Alle Gazze Dell'Ornellaia pours a medium yellow hue, and its nose is fresh and inviting with aromas of fresh guava, wet stone, tropical flowers, a hint of vanilla, and white grapefruit. Medium to full-bodied, it has a linear feel with refreshing acidity at this early stage, and its graceful perfume lasts long and floats on the finish. This is by far one of the prettiest whites of the region, offering a lot of finesse and pretty character. As it ages, it will flesh out, but it’s just very fresh and inviting right now, with an elegant mineral texture. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.

The 2023 Poggio alle Gazze, Ornellaia’s Sauvignon Blanc-based white, is bright and nicely focused. Orchard fruit, citrus peel, sage, mint and chalk show lovely energy in a mid-weight style that is quite appealing. I would prefer to drink this over the next few years. There's lovely energy and dimension here. The blend is 53% Sauvignon Blanc, 37% Vermentino, 7% Viognier and 3% Semillon.
