Tasting notes
While Elsa Gangloff declined my request to taste at the property, arguing that all the wines were already sold, I was able to acquire a bottle of 2022 La Barbarine. Unfurling from the glass with a vibrant, spicy bouquet of violets, rose petals, pencil lead, dark berries and dark cherries intertwined with delicate notes of pepper, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textured, with good depth at the core and framed by velvety tannins, culminating in a long, ethereal and delicate finish. Less dense and deep than La Sereine Noire, this is an elegant, energetic Côte-Rôtie that should age nicely over the next decade.

Perfumed and expressive, the 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Barbarine launches dried violet, rose petal, red plum, pencil shaving and white pepper aromas. Built around ripe tannins, the medium-bodied 2022 is an inviting La Barbarine that closes with lively energy on the savory aftertaste.
