Score 95/100 · Drink 2029-2043, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, May 2026

The 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Clos des Grives was matured in a combination of new barrels (two-thirds) and one- to three-year-old barrels (one-third), sourced from a wide range of coopers, notably Taransaud, Ermitage and Rémond. It opens with aromas of cassis, Morello cherry and floral nuances, evolving toward blueberry with aeration, showing an almost Pinot Noir-like refinement. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s full, layered and finely textured, combining a subtly telluric character with notable delicacy. The oak is perfectly integrated, supporting the wine without dominating it. This is a particularly accomplished bottle.

The flagship from this reference point estate in Crozes, the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Clos Des Grives offers a gorgeous nose of ripe black cherries, cassis, graphite, spicy wood, and pepper, as well as a beautiful floral character. It's medium-bodied and has terrific mid-palate concentration, ripe, building tannins, and a great finish. I'd put this up with the top wines in the appellation, and it's an absolutely brilliant Crozes that I'd love to have in the cellar. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following 15+ years. Drink 2028-2043.

The 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Clos des Grives initially lifts notes of pronounced wood smoke, clove, ripe black fruits and a touch of graphite. Medium-bodied and smooth, the 2023 is a serious red Crozes-Hermitage, coming in at eye level with the 2022 I tasted last year. Savory and layered, the 2023 follows through with persistence on the ferrous finale.

Vinified from hand-harvested, fully destemmed grapes, the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Clos des Grives is scheduled to age in an equal combination of new oak, second- and third-fill barriques. Swirling the glass unlocks peppery traits complemented by discrete cedar, black plum and spicy nuances. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the smooth 2023 rounds off with a zesty slice of grapefruit on the refreshing exit.
