Tasting notes
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes is showing very well, mingling aromas of sweet berry fruit and plums with hints of exotic spices, raw cocoa, burning embers and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it concludes with a sapid, rose petal-inflected finish.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a tightly wound nose, maybe just missing a little complexity at the moment. Touches of potpourri and incense join the red berry fruit and with aeration they begin to cloud it out. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening and a mixture of red and black fruit. There is an appealing graphite element to this Vosne-Romanée that lends tension on the finish. Give it a couple of years and I am sure the aromatics will up their game.
At the bottom of La Tâche, on the upper part. Above the geological fault with a bit of limestone. Tank sample. Super-charming. Rich and welcoming, and an impressively long, round finish. (JR)
