The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows a medium-dark garnet color with a pretty ruby shine that underlines the wine's careful extraction that is neither too light nor too dark. Sangiovese, with its wild berry, cherry, blue flower and earthy root aromas, is allowed ample space to breathe and express itself. Secondary aromas of spice and tar add aromatic weight and complexity. There is fresh acidity and tight structure to wrap up the palate. In all, this is a very neat and compact wine that should perform nicely with modest bottle age. Only 4,000 bottles were produced.

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up with a dusty and incredibly pretty mix of red plums, dried roses, worn leather and a lifting hint of camphor. This is soft and supple on the palate, elegant and seamless in feel, with violet-tinged red fruits underscored by saline-minerals and spice. It finishes potent, long and structured, leaving a primary concentration to mingle, with youthfully grippy tannins that create a chewy sensation through the finale.
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Hints of incense on the nose and with brooding, ripe fruit underneath. Really ripe fruit with notes of fruit cake on the palate but with amazingly supple and all-encompassing acidity, which gives it an edge over the straight Brunello. Old school but in a good way. (WS)
