Tasting notes
Mouthwatering, juicy slim frame, with red berry fruit that is fresh and crunchy. Lighter styled overall, soft finish. 50% newk oak for ageing, mix of 225l and 500l. This bottling is named after Mazzei ancestor Ser Lapo, author of first document mentioning Chianti wine in 1398.

The Mazzei 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo is almost all Sangiovese with a 10% drop of Merlot that gives considerably more texture and richness to the mouthfeel. This mid-weight red is packed with blueberry and plum, and it shows mild spice to close. It has the inner stuffing to pair with a classic chicken roast with twice-baked potatoes or something universally appetizing. Production is an ample 290,000 bottles.
The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo is a complex, beguiling wine. It presents a decidedly aromatic, savory expression of Sangiovese. Cedar, pipe tobacco, crushed autumn leaves and wild red cherry race across the palate, all framed by vibrant saline underpinnings. Once again, the Ser Lapo is one of the under-the-radar gems in the lineup from Mazzei.
