Tasting notes
Serralunga d'Alba. For release in 2023. Just mid ruby and youthful. Still closed and with hints of Moroccan leather, iron and minerals. Subtle and then opens to amazing fragrant cherry. A version of Lazzarito that is set on elegance and fragrance. Compact, fresh acidity and beautiful coating tannins. (WS)

The 2018 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito is a good choice for near- and medium-term drinking. The mid-weight character of the year is evident, yet the wine is nicely balanced. Specifically, the use of oak here is far more measured than it was just a few years ago. Worn-in leather, brown spices, tobacco, cedar and dried cherry hint at a wine that is ready to drink now. This is decidedly a lighter style of Lazzarito, but all the elements are melded together. A reduction of time in cask to 24 months, plus more seasoned casks, undoubtedly helped glue this together.
