The 1963 Giscours comes from a vintage that you very rarely see. It's curiously pleasurable on the nose, which I did not anticipate. Red cherries, desiccated orange peels and molasses—I wonder how much of this derives from chaptalization at the time? The palate is dry and a bit scrawny on the entry, somewhat hollow with too much bitterness for my liking. The 1963 is loaded with VA on the finish but undeniably palatable, which is more than I would have ever expected.
