The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has turned out superbly, unwinding with scents of lemon oil, mandarin, fresh pear, buttery pastry and green apple. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, it's saline and enveloping, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a long, mineral finish. This is a dramatic, expressive rendition of a cuvée that still flies somewhat under the radar.

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is taut and well defined on the nose, lemon peel mingling with walnut and light praline aromas and a little chalkiness developing with aeration. The palate is fresh and saline on the entry, with crisp acidity, though I am seeking just a little more mineralité and tension toward the finish compared to others that I have tasted.
The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from a small parcel in Corton-Renardes on the most northerly part, the vines planted in 1988/1989. It has a voluminous bouquet of yellow plum, jasmine and hints of toffee apple (it was going through malolactic, which explains this last aroma). The palate is clean and fresh on the entry, a little disjointed at the moment and quite malic toward the finish. On reflection, I will seek to revisit this later as the malolactic is discombobulating the wine at the moment.
