Tasting notes
The 2013 Pernand Vergelesses les Vergelesses 1er Cru has a slightly withdrawn bouquet with blackberry and undergrowth scents laced with cold black tea. It unfolds nicely in the glass but never fully lets go. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, crunchy tannin. I like the structure here, but there is just a slight greenness just poking its head out on the finish.

Bright, dark red. Sappy aromas of red fruits, sandalwood and earth; still a touch of reduction following the recent end of the secondary fermentation. Very fresh and spicy in the mouth, with smoky mineral, pepper, licorice and salty nuances currently overshadowing underlying red fruits. A bit youthfully disjointed today, finishing with slightly peppery tannins. This still needs more élevage : the Nicolays will bottle the 2013s between April and June, later than the 2012s and 2011s.
