Heady, scented, floral. Firmly tannic, tight-knit structure; really furry and firm – but with plenty of acid to rehydrate the palate. The fruit seems shy in the shadow of that rock-face structure. (RH)

The 2015 Barolo Marenca is once again a wine of texture and volume, as it so often is, but there is also terrific aromatic nuance and layers of complexity to balance things out. Rose petal, sage, mint, sweet tobacco, licorice and wild cherry all run through this ample, super-inviting Serralunga Barolo. When I choose to drink a Pira Barolo, it is almost always Marenca. The 2015 is simply gorgeous. That's all there is to it.
