Bright ruby-red. Aromas of crushed blackberry and musky espresso. Dense, lush and supple, with the spicy dark berry flavors accented by pepper, licorice and herbs. Plenty of flavor intensity for 2007! The tannins are a tad tough but this very pure wine shows sneaky length.

No matter what the vintage conditions, Joanin-Becot seems to produce excellent wines. A serious sleeper of the vintage, the 2007 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color along with beautifully sweet aromas of black cherries, black raspberries, white chocolate, and espresso notes. Round, opulent, concentrated, medium to full-bodied, and surprisingly fruit-driven, it should drink well for 4-6 years.

Red-ruby. Black cherry, minerals, bitter chocolate and licorice on the nose. On the lean side and slightly tart, but with a good purity of fruit and a penetrating quality owing to brisk acidity and a minty element. Finishes with slightly peppery tannins. Rather unformed today and difficult to taste. The pH here is a fairly low 3.5, but then it's always on the low side, noted Juliette Becot, who added that she finds her family's 2007s (including Beau-Sejour-Becot and La Gomerie) to be more feminine, round and ripe than its 2006s.

Aromatic, slightly charry nose. Powdery, rather dry tannins. Fresh but drying on the finish. (JH)
