Tasting notes
An elegant wine (a hallmark of this estate), the 2008 La Bastide Saint-Dominique Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault, has perfumed notes of garrigue, spice box and pretty Grenache fruit, medium body and a great texture. This silky textured, beautifully balanced wine will drink well over the next decade.

Bright, dark crimson. Quite dramatic black cherry aromas with a fine fizz. Vigorous and not excessively counter to the vintage character. Very clean and pure with lots of fine tannin tucked in at the end. (JR)
The 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape offers good fruit as well as decent size and ripeness, but it is slightly shallow and short in the back end, which is not unusual for this vintage. (Not yet released) This relatively small (25+ acres) estate flies somewhat under the radar, but its offerings from the sandy soils of Pignan are well-worth checking out. They also produce some stunning wines under the Cotes du Rhone-Villages appellation. Importers: Simon N Cellars, Charlottesville, VA; tel.
