Barolo. Maturing mid ruby with orange rim. Already a little evolved on the nose with hints of dried fruit, cherry and rusty nails. More than a hint of dried fruit on the palate, too, and rather a little too mellow. Ready now, it seems. (WS)

Virna's 2011 Barolo Cannubi Boschis does a nice job of portraying both territory and grape. The wine peels back with simple layers of dark fruit, spice, licorice and pressed rose. The quality of aromas is straightforward and steady. It doesn't offer big excitement, but it does prove to be a steady and friendly food companion. It should flesh out further with more years in your cellar.

Dark rust. Heady and rich. Thick and sweet but pretty earthbound and heavy. Gamey. A bit hot, and salty, on the end. Far from the finest example from this cru. (JR)
