Score 89/100 · Drink 2023-2028, Eric Guido, Vinous, Feb 2021

The 2014 Amarone della Valpolicella is a bit introverted with its dark display of musky blackberries, hints of lavender and licorice. Its textures are silky, as it shows a pronounced inner sweetness yet also a lull toward the midpalate. Black fruits and fine tannins saturate toward the close. Savory herbs, minerals and nervous acids linger through the long and slightly bitter finale. Frankly, this comes across as much drier and structured that you’d expect from an Amarone, and it may find more balance through cellaring, but only time will tell.
