The 2007 Giramonte (Sangiovese, Merlot) is another rich, powerful wine from Frescobaldi. Fine, silky tannins frame an exquisite core of fresh red berries, roses, sweet baking spices and French oak, all of which meld together seamlessly in a soft, opulent style. This fruit-driven, opulent red delivers considerable pleasure, although varietal and regional character don't seem to be a priority. Still, everything works beautifully here.

This fruit-driven, opulent red delivers considerable pleasure, although varietal and regional character don’t seem to be a priority. Still, everything works beautifully here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. This is a strong set of new releases from the Frescobaldi family, yet as is often the case, I am left thinking these properties have yet to maximize their full potential.
