Tasting notes
The 2004 Carnasciale has aged beautifully, which is quite amazing considering it was made with vines planted in 1999. Deep, layered and resonant, the 2004 is only now beginning to show signs of tertiary nuance and complexity. Hints of tobacco, worn-in leather, menthol, licorice and melted road tar linger on the close. This is a great showing from the estate's entry-level bottling, and frankly an eye-opening bottle.

The 2004 Carnasciale is a great introduction to the wines of this estate. It is a gorgeous, open-knit effort that reveals notes of herbs, menthol, roasted espresso beans and sweet dark fruit on a medium-bodied frame, displaying excellent length, fine tannins and lingering note of sweetness on the finish. Made in a more accessible style than Caberlot, Carnasciale is sure to provide more immediate pleasure than the estate's ‘Grand Vin.'
