Score 94/100 · Drink 2020-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2019

The 2016 Pinot Noir Akiko's Cuvée is another stellar wine from Freeman. Deep and pliant, with terrific depth, it will benefit from another year to two in the cellar, but it is super-impressive, even in the early going. I very much like the density and weight here, and yet the Akiko's Cuvée remains light on its feet, as all the wines do. Vineyards sites in this blend are Yu-ki, Gloria, Campbell Ranch and Pratt Sexton.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2016 Pinot Noir Akiko's Cuvee has a gregarious nose of blueberry, boysenberry, black cherry and blackberry with violets, pepper and soil accents. The palate is medium-bodied and silky with good concentration, fine-grained tannins and an earthy finish. 420 cases produced.
