Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets 2011 from Blain-Gagnard has another slight sulfur issue, though not as bad as the Caillerets from Jean-Noël Gagnard. Citrus lemon, orange rind and yellow flower scents are in situ, but they feel a little smothered at the moment. The palate is very saline on the entry with brisk acidity, while the conservative finish opens nicely with aeration and becomes spicy with lemongrass and shaved ginger infusing the citrus fruit. This is a mercurial Caillerets that probably deserves decanting if you insist on opening a bottle now.

Lively and quite ripe. Easy but very dry finish. (JR)
