The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Vangone Vineyard comes from a site on Atlas Peak and spent 22 months in 100% new French oak before bottling. Rocking levels of blue fruit, crushed stone, graphite, and spring flowers all define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with a layered, seamless mouthfeel. The balance as well as its purity are spot on. This beauty will have at least two decades of prime drinking.
Full bottle 1,459 g. Hand-harvested on the first day of October, sorted, and destemmed into tank. Cold soaked for 6 days. Aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months before being bottled. 45 cases produced. Deep purple. Black plum and cherry with violet and blackcurrant lift. Fine smooth tannin with fresh acidity. Still in barrel when I tasted it late in 2023, Vangone's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of four blocks (B, D, Bulli and a new section planted to clone 4). It's gently herbal, with piney, rosemary-like accents to the raspberry, cherry and cassis fruit. Full-bodied and amply concentrated, the texture falls somewhere between creamy and velvety across the mid-palate, balanced and plush, with a long, silky finish.
