A selection of old-vine Grenache from three parcels matured in demi-muids, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul is a knockout success for the vintage, boasting copious amounts of red berries, a hint of stewed fruit and charming garrigue overtones. Full-bodied, concentrated yet supple, it finishes long, tannic (but ripe) and intense. This is a beauty.

Up with the biggest, baddest wines in the vintage, the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Mon Aïeul (100% Grenache) sports a deeper ruby/plum hue to go with gorgeous aromatics of blackberries, roasted garrigue, black licorice, and meaty, spicy nuances. Not destemmed and aged all in used demi-muids, this medium to full-bodied, balanced, nicely concentrated 2021 can be drunk any time over the coming 15 years. It's an incredible success in the vintage.
Made from Grenache grown on the three individual plots of Les Serres, La Crau and La Guigasse, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Mon Aïeul is showing well. Stating a whopping 16% alcohol on the label, a level rarely seen in the 2021 vintage, it displays bright aromas of ripe raspberry, strawberry, red plum, red and black cherry, mint and spice-box. Tightly-structured and full-bodied, it neatly retains freshness despite the elevated alcohol. Only 4,500 bottles produced.
