A saturated and reflective inky red color, the 2021 Barolo Vignarionda takes all the components of the Serralunga comune bottling and amplifies them with profound intensity. It’s layered and deep on the nose with aromas of black cherry liqueur, espresso, dark chocolate, polished leather, resinous fresh tobacco, and sappy earth. It fills the senses with a seamless feel, full body, refreshingly ripe acidity, velvety tannins, and a long-lasting finish that starts to reveal its more profound and noble structure after the wine is long gone. There aren’t too many wines like this in the region, and it has a singular feel. Drink 2027-2050.

The 2021 Barolo Vigna Rionda feels the most complete of the 2021s tasted from barrel and possibly from the entire range. Notes of kirsch, crushed rosemary, incense, and candied flowers are followed by a red that’s persistent and long, with great depth, sweet tannins, and a long, long finish. It’s one of the best wines I have tasted from Davide to date. Bravo! I can’t wait to revisit this next year.
The 2021 Barolo Vignarionda Ester Canale Rosso is stellar, as it has always been. Exotic, layered and beguiling, the 2021 is classic Rionda through and through. Kirsch, white pepper, spice, mint, candy and orange peel all soar from the glass, lending tons of aromatic brilliance. Silky tannins convey finesse as the 2021 builds through the mid-palate and into the finish. Superb.
