Tasting notes
The 1999 Charmes-Chambertin reveals pretty, ripe cherry aromas that lead to a medium-bodied and silky-textured personality. Its finish is firm and highly structured. This red fruit-flavored wine should be consumed over the next 5-7 years. Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800.

Good deep red. Spicy aromas of blackberry, blueberry and meat. Sappy, spicy flavors of red and black berries and licorice. Sweet, creamy and fruit-driven; not yet especially complex but shows strong fruit and considerably ripe tannins.
About the producer

Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, this domaine has a long history and impressive vineyards (with over five hectares of Grand Cru), but has long been considered an under-performer. Today, however, the Bouygues brothers (of Montrose and Clos Rougeard) have taken ownership and change is afoot.
