Score 94-96/100 · Drink 2026-2045, Neal Martin, Jan 2023
The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is aged in wood until malo and then 30% sees a Wineglobe. This sports a bit of reduction, yet despite this, I discern more complexity vis-a-vis the Griottes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, sappy red fruit, lovely structure and harmony with impressive body on the finish. This is a very classy, finely-chiselled Charmes-Chamberting that should give 20 years of pleasure or more.

Cask sample. Mid-deep ruby. Ripe fruit but dry. Fleshy fruit but the tannins are really quite assertive. (MH)
