Tasting notes
Cask sample. Mid crimson, with richer and more classic dark-fruited Pommard aroma than on the Charmots. Dark-fruited and peppery. Firm, savoury and fresh. Dry, refined texture, firm but balanced by the restrained dark fruit. (JH)

The 2023 Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru has a delightful, open, well-defined bouquet that surpasses the Charmots. It's bright and breezy with Morello cherries and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, brittle in texture, quite linear and strict, with a touch of savoriness on the finish. Fine.
Another terrific effort from Pillot, the 2023 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens offers up aromas of dark berries and plums mingled with notions of orange rind and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a deep core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, expansive finish, it derives from both the top and bottom of this premier cru.
