The 2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale is denser and more structured than its Clos des Fourches sibling. Exhibiting notes of cassis, plums, raspberries, spices and petals, it's medium- to full-bodied, with good density and sweet tannins. It's showing better in bottle than it did from barrel.

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er Cru has a perfumed nose with wild strawberry, light cassis and violet scents that are a little Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, dark berry fruit laced with cola and black pepper, leading to a classically styled slightly austere finish that will benefit from another 12 months in bottle.
Tasted from bottle, thus without the selection which has gone into Clos des Fourches. A fresher and slightly deeper purple. Quite a bit more concentration, and more tannins too, but especially the fruit which is more robust, alongside similar oaking to the Fourches.
Fine - The Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 2023 is very refined for a NSG (sorry to say so). It is airy and vivid … and it could almost be mistaken for a Chambolle. The nose is a bit less perfumed than the Chambolles … but blast me – this is a sexy NSG.
