The 2023 Le Corton Grand Cru has turned out beautifully, unfurling to reveal an incipiently complex bouquet of wild berries, orange zest, rose petals, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and sensual, with a lively core of perfumed fruit, refined tannins and a saline finish, this cuvée stands out in the range once again.

The 2023 Le Corton Grand Cru presents an open-knit bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, hints of Seville orange marmalade and bergamot. It shows fine delineation and gains cohesion in the glass. The palate is well balanced with around 40% whole cluster, which is very well integrated. This is precise and poised with a peacock's tail on the finish—one of the outstanding reds from Bouchard Père. Highly recommended.
The terroir of the Bouchard Corton is red clay with very little soil on top of the hard limestone. The 2023 displays a medium deep purple colour. A high class, almost understated nose, but really persistent. More whole bunches haven been used here, 40%. I wondered about a touch of earthiness but think it is more a question of stemmy tannins waiting to resolve.

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most established wine producers. Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, it is the largest vineyard owner in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vines.
