The 2007 Vin de Pays blanc, which is 100% Clairette, offers delicious notes of flowers, grapefruit and white peaches. Medium-bodied, fresh and lively, it should be enjoyed over the next year. At his home estate, Emmanuel Reynaud (who has been producing the Rayas wines since 1997) has nearly 100 acres of vineyards from which he makes a wonderful array of value-priced reds and whites. One of the southern Rhone’s most distinctive white wines is the 2007 Vin de Pays blanc. Made from 100% Clairette, an interesting grape that provides abundant floral notes as well as a hint of butter, it is a fresh, fruity beauty that should drink nicely for several years. The best bargain is the 2007 Vin de Pays, a blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 10% Counoise, and the rest Syrah and a few other authorized grapes. This stylish, individualistic, tasty red is meant to be consumed during its first 2-3 years of life. The home estate of Emmanuel Reynaud, these are idiosyncratic, but often terrific wines that tend to reveal tremendous vintage variation. Domaine des Tours is a separate label to Ch. des Tours, however both ranges are made at the same Vacqueyras property. Part of the Rayas galaxy and made by Emmanuel Reynaud, the wines are a source of great value and offer a glimpse of the Rayas style.
