Score 93/100 · Drink 2021-2035, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, the Ettore Germano 2013 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito presents broad brush strokes with dark fruit, spice, licorice and tobacco. There's a savory and slightly evolved side to this wine that works nicely against all that dark fruit. You also encounter a sour point with cranberry and a touch of bitter almond. This wine sees up to 60 days of extended skin maceration and 36 months of aging in 20-hectoliter oak casks. Fruit comes from a 0.9-hectare site with calcareous marl and thin layers of sand. Some 4,500 bottles were released at the end of 2019.
