2022 Chardonnay Gloria

The 2022 Chardonnay Gloria is from Ried Glagsatz on a site that rises from 300 to 325 meters, surrounded on three sides by forest on poor Leitha limestone with yields below 25 hl/ha. It was fermented and aged in one-third new French barrels. The nose is shy and nowhere near as open as its siblings. The palate, however, shows the serene, bright, taut nature of the wine. Yes, the fruit is ripe and luminous, but the cool stone and the elevation set the tone for this pristine, textured, slightly smoky, nutty and chalky wine. It has wonderful balance, ripeness and linearity.
