Tasting notes
An elegant, fresh, lively effort, the 2011 Haut-Simard offers aromas and flavors of roasted herbs, Christmas fruitcake, loamy soil and Asian spices. This dark ruby/plum-tinged wine is medium-bodied with light tannin and decent acidity. Drink it over the next 7-8 years, as it is one of the most developed St.-Emilions I tasted.

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. 50% new oak. Black inky core. Smoky, oaky nose not letting much fruit through. Harsh and dry on the finish. Overextracted. (JH)
