Tasting notes
Fine, focused and long. Classic saline/mineral notes on the palate. Good balance in this warmer vintage. At peak now. (AWH)

Still healthy light gold-hued, the 2018 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmain has a more reticent bouquet of stone fruits, Meyer lemon, and honeyed flowers, with some solid background spice and savory mineral-like nuances. It's nicely balanced on the palate, has terrific mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. It's in a much more mineral-driven, savory style and has riveting purity and precision while still being concentrated and rich. Count me impressed. This gorgeous Chablis has another decade of life.
The 2018 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has an immediate nose featuring white flowers and linseed aromas that are both detailed and focused. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity and plenty of race and vibrancy, although the saline finish requires a little more focus. That might come with bottle age. All in all, a splendid Montmains.
One of the more forthcoming wines in the cellar, the 2018 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is racy and expressive, with soft contours and terrific balance. White flowers, tropical overtones and a dash of sweet oak add to its overt, racy personality. There is real density and weight here, but those elements are nicely balanced by supporting beams of minerality. The oak needs time to fully integrate, but there is certainly plenty to look forward to.
