Score 89/100 · Drink 2018-2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

The most recently bottled wine from the estate, the 2013 Gigondas is a fine effort that comes from yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare and the standard blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 14% Syrah and a splash of Mourvedre, brought up all in old foudres. It's a fresh, medium-bodied, classy 2013 that offers cool-climate notes of pepper, basil leaves, garrigue and sweet dark fruit. Given the cooler, difficult vintage, it has impressive ripeness and texture on the palate, rock solid mid-palate depth and should be at its best from 2018-2025.

Vivid ruby-red. A wild, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red berries, candied flowers and garrigue , backed by an exotic suggestion of apricot. Sweet, seamless and expansive on the palate, offering intense raspberry and lavender pastille flavors and a repeating apricot nuance. At once powerful and graceful, with no rough edges and superb finishing clarity and thrust.

Brilliant ruby-red. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes red fruit liqueur, apricot, potpourri and smoky minerals. Juicy and expansive on the palate, offering sweet raspberry and pit fruit flavors that put on weight with air. The floral and smoky notes come back strong on the long, supple finish, which is given shape by late-arriving tannins. Once again, this was among the most aromatically intriguing wines that I tasted from the vintage.

Mid ruby. Good complex attack on the nose. Sweet start and then a slight lack of freshness on the palate. Not bad but just a bit duller than it could have been. Relatively soft. (JR)
