Tasting notes
The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with a deep bouquet of cassis, spices, dark chocolate and coniferous forest floor. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and enveloping, with a voluminous core of fruit that's framed by powdery, supple tannins. Like the Lavaux Saint-Jacques, this derives from six distinct parcels.

Moderate wood frames thoroughly reduced aromas so I would strongly advise giving this plenty of air if you're going to crack a bottle young. Otherwise the intense and tautly muscular flavors possess good delineation and a beguiling sense of underlying tension before culminating in a mineral-driven finale that flashes plenty of youthful austerity as well as a touch of dryness.
