Tasting notes
Fruit for this wine comes from a site that was planted in 2008. The Warwick 2021 Simonsberg Cabernet Franc is a small production of 3,100 bottles (in heavy glass). Its bouquet is equally driven by primary aromas of dark blackberry fruit and secondary notes from oak aging that recall cinnamon and vanilla stick. This medium-plus red ends with a lasting hint of sweetness. It spent 17 days on the skins during fermentation, with two to three pump-overs per day. The aging regime is in new and neutral barrels for 22 months.

About the producer

With vineyards at the foot of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, Warwick Estate is one of South Africa’s most established wine producers. The Ratcliffe family converted the farm to viticulture and started making Bordeaux-inspired blends in the 1980s, including its flagship Trilogy.
