Score 92/100 · Drink 2022-2028, Mark Squires, Oct 2022

The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc (the Fumé is now missing from the label, but it is the same wine) was aged for five months in 20% new French barriques and comes in at 13.7% alcohol. After running through a lot of bland Sauvignons from New York, where bland seems to be the preferred style, this stepped in and reminded me what veggie-driven Sauvignon is. Now, bland may also be the preferred style of some haters who can't stand the green in Sauvignon Blanc, but for the rest of us, this is gorgeous. Textured, deep and focused, this touches all the bases. If it is definitely on the green side, it is not too much, at least by my standards. If your sensibilities are more delicate, your mileage may differ. Still, this is a super food wine that will leave a Sauvignon Blanc purist completely satisfied. And yes, the grape's personality easily surmounts the wood. This should age reasonably well, at least through the decade, more or less, but it is also drinking perfectly now.
