The 2020 Côte Rôtie Les Rochains is all Syrah from a great site on the Côte Brune side of the appellation. It offers a darker profile with incredible notes of black raspberries, smoked game, liquid violets, bacon fat, and exotic spices that develop beautifully with time in the glass. Complex, nuanced, and layered aromatically, it shows the riper style of the vintage on the palate with full-bodied richness and depth, yet like the Colline de Couzou, it remains perfectly balanced, has ripe tannins, and remarkable purity. It's another brilliant Côte Rôtie from this team.

Opaque ruby. Aromas of ripe dark berries, kirsch, vanilla and candied flowers take on a smoky mineral nuance with aeration. Velvety and round on the palate, offering pliant blueberry, cherry-cola, olive paste and spicecake flavors that open up slowly through the back half. Gently gripping tannins add shape to a very long, smoke- and spice-tinged finish that strongly repeats the blue fruit and vanilla notes. One-third new oak.
