Tasting notes
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru contains around 20% whole bunches. It has a well defined bouquet of vivid red fruit infused with crushed stone, a little blood orange developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, silky-smooth, almost satiny. A gentle landing on the finish suggests that this may drink early but will also age in bottle. It is a fine Les Chaumes, but not from Liger-Belair's top drawer this vintage.

Notes of sweet berries, spices and French roast introduce the 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes, a medium to full-bodied wine that saw some 30% stem inclusion and displays impressive tangy energy this year, its ample core of succulent fruit cloaking its fine-grained tannins, concluding with a saline finish. Liger-Belair's parcel is located at the northern end of Les Chaumes, bordering de Montille parcel of Les Malconsorts.
At the bottom of La Tâche, on the upper part. Above the geological fault with a bit of limestone. Delicate in spice and red fruits. Incredibly delicate but with no loss of intensity of pure fruit. More savoury on the palate, light-bodied but long. Really very restrained on the palate with those silky tannins. Super-dry, super-subtle but long and mouth-watering. (JH)
