35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Montepulciano, 15% Sangiovese, 15% Marselan, 5% Alicante Bouschet. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel. MLF in French oak barrels (15% new) in which it was aged for 12 months, followed by seven months in bottle. Youthful crimson. Pretty nose of cherry and wild strawberry with minerally iron notes and a hint of complex oak. On the palate, juicy fruit is followed by a layer of bitter powdery tannins that become a little demanding on the finish. Ends slightly astringent. (WS)

The 2018 Eneo, Montepeloso’s Montepulciano-based blend, is redolent of crushed red berry fruit, licorice, blood orange, star anise and rose petal. Bright and gracious, with terrific purity, the Eneo beautifully captures the understated, nuanced style of the year. It is a bit more red-toned than I recall from barrel. This is so nicely done.

The Montepeloso 2018 Eneo (a blend of 55% Sangiovese, 25% Montepulciano, 15% Alicante and 5% Malvasia Nera) is another unexpected blend from this very promising estate on the Tuscan Coast. With 34,000 bottles made, this is the mid-entry cru wine. It offers a beautifully saturated color with thickness, fruity richness and nicely integrated tannins. It's a bit harder to dissect the various components in this blend, but that solo voice of Sangiovese does emerge with wild plum, potting earth and blue lilac. There is an extra point of acidity that also reminds me of the mighty Tuscan grape. This well-priced wine is worth seeking out.

The 2018 Eneo is pure and total class. Dark, resonant and super-expressive, the 2018 boasts terrific personality and class, with striking inner perfume that adds sweetness and aromatic intensity to a core of inky fruit. Lavender, mint, pine and sage are some of the many nuances that come alive with a bit of time in the glass. More than anything else, it is the wine's creaminess and overall feel that are so alluring today.
