The 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a ripe nose with black cherries, raspberry and touches of vanilla, with light cassis notes following through. Playful and charming, though not the most complex Grand Cru you will find this vintage. Hints of cherry cola with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite tender tannins. Sapid with impressive grip but it lacks precision on the finish due to the patina of oak. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, historically the last Grand Cru picked, has a strict, backward, serious nose that is a bit grumpy at the moment. It gradually loosens up to reveal red fruit and touches of oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, sorbet-fresh red fruit with just a touch of oak to be assimilated on the finish. Very good potential - unashamedly Latricières.
Firm reduction renders the nose unreadable. More interesting are the bigger-bodied and denser flavors that are almost pungently mineral-driven on the chiseled and markedly austere yet much better-balanced and lengthier finale. As it always does, this elegant effort is going to require at least some patience and should reward 12 to 15 years of keeping.
